This weblog is all about Thomas, Rebecca and our children (Sean, Brenden and Michael). We spend most of our time doing activities. We’ll share our family as we continue our journey.

Our boys enjoy riding bikes, playing video games of course and doing home work .. Right! Well at least the first two are correct.

Make sure to click the photos link above to see a variety of pictures.

Interval training is probably best for day-to-day workouts to avoid injury, etc., but occasional longer runs are important for mental preparation especially when getting ready for a 10k or longer race (or so I have heard).  I hope that you’ll join me for a somewhat longer run (90 minutes or so at least–round-trip is ~20km for folks who can go that far) this Saturday morning.

UPDATE: What a run we had today. I met with a bunch of really nice people and we did a 10K run (7 miles).

We will meet next week to do it all over again. I’m looking forward to spending more time with some of the people I met today.

Our goal is to prepare for a 1/2 marathon which will be the most miles I’ve ever run. Even when I was in the Military we did not run this far. So I’ll run this on Thanksgiving day and then what, a full marathon? Nope It will be some triathlon I’m sure.

Well I’m signed up for a 10K on the 20th of this month and a 1/2 marathon on thanksgiving day. It’s going to be interesting considering I’m having difficulty with my knee (Pain).

It’s labor day weekend!!! AND it’s going to be full of activity. Yep clean the garage, the yard, the flower beds (Just in time for winter) and then it’s lots of bike riding and lots of kids having fun with their friends.

I hope to burn over 5k in calories on my mountain bike. Me and a bud are doing Blankets Creek where we will do a 14 mile downhill grade and then back to the top with pedals :)

UPDATE: Well I got my 5000 calorie burn in by yesterday (Sunday) and today I hurt in places I did not know existed. One word of advice; Stay away from the 20 year old mountain bikers who use the word dude 6 times within 60 seconds. Like an idiot I tried to hang with them over at Big Creek on the intermmediate trail. Lets just say I’ve been humbled right back into realizing I’m an old guy ;)

OK . So I’m 40. Does that mean it’s got to be so dang painful getting back in shape!? For the last 6 weeks my ankle has been killing me and now it’s feeling much better and would you know it; It’s now time for the knee to act up. Ugh! Oh well .. Just slow and methodical

I had my first 20+ mile trip today on a new road bike. It was amazing and felt really good to complete. The trip was made up of hilly roads along with little room for me and cars. I ran along the edge of the road most of the way. Some of the downhills were insane. The bike computer registered 43mph on one of the longest ones and would you know it was the worst road conditions. Quite scary but I was charged for anything so it was bring it on! Anyway .. Have a great week.

The kids are back in school! As always the big boys are excited to be going back. What’s wrong with them! I always loved going back ;)

Anyway it’s a great year so far. We are eating healthy at home and spending lots of time doing homework plus our time outdoors riding bikes and such.

We’re going to North GA for camp and to ride our mountain bikes. Soon all of the scouting stuff will be starting up. Should be a blast!

Our older boys really enjoy the scouts. Sean, is looking forward to entering boy scouts next year while Brenden is quite content just to be part of it. I think Michael is really going to be impatient but he’s to young to know. Check out the boys official scouts website http://gapack1776.com

After I gave up smoking, I started working out like a mad man. It’s been an uphill battle with weight gain but I’m thinning down slowly and enjoying spending time getting into shape. The family has joined in and we are on a mission to improve our health.

Our program includes a lot of bike riding, walking, running and time in the gym.
